The NHS Health Check is divided into two parts. Firstly, you will need to answer a few simple questions and following that, have some straightforward health tests. These will help us to assess any risk that you may have of developing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes or kidney disease. We also provide a more in-depth Private Health Check.
The check will be undertaken out by one of our expert staff or pharmacists and normally takes around 20-30 minutes. The main questions will be based around your family history, and any medication you might be taking. Other important information to be recorded will be your height, weight, sex, ethnicity and age, along with your blood pressure. We will also check your cholesterol level using a quick and easy finger-prick blood test. Your body mass index (BMI) will be calculated, to measure whether you are a healthy weight compared to your height.
Finally, one of our trained pharmacists will give your results, and explain what they mean for you and your health. You’ll be given advice and support on maintaining good health, and also on any lifestyle changes that could help to improve your health. If we feel it is necessary, you will be referred to our Health Trainer or to your G.P.
