Taking care of your hearing is vital! We all want to live life to the fullest and that is why good ear & hearing health is important to people of all ages. There are many factors that can affect our ear health including age, the misuse of ear buds, constant exposure to very loud noises and of course the build up of wax. If our ear health is compromised then our ability to hear deteriorates, this often causes people to be socially withdrawn. If you are concerned about your hearing health or you are looking for ear wax removal – we are here to help.
Our ear health can be impacted by a variety of environmental factors; a build-up of wax is the most common one. It is estimated that around 3.9% of the UK population need ear wax management services. However, in many cases, NHS appointment waiting times can range from 12-16 weeks; this means that the majority of patients neglect their ear health, allowing their conditions to worsen. This is largely due to a lack of awareness that your local pharmacists are in fact equipped to ease your ear-related discomfort.
Please note: You should not use your fingers, or objects such as cotton buds, to remove ear wax. This will be counterproductive, as it will actually push it in and make it worse. Moreover, there is no evidence that methods such as ear vacuums or candles effectively remove ear wax.
Here at Horton Pharmacy and Travel Clinic, your health and wellbeing is our top priority; that is why we have chosen to provide accessible Ear Wax Removal.
Your appointment will last approximately 30 minutes; it will be carried out by one of our highly-trained clinicians. Following the removal of some of the wax, tests will be conducted in order to determine any potential hearing issues. If any issues are identified, you will be referred for further treatment. However, in the majority of cases, it is simply an excessive build-up of ear wax causing your discomfort. If no wax removal is required, there will be a £39 (per ear) consultation fee to be paid afterwards.
Payment for the service will be taken in-person, prior to your appointment.
Following your diagnosis, we will then remove the excess ear wax using Microsuction. Ear Microsuction is the safest, most efficient method of ear wax removal. Moreover, the process will be painless, as it merely involves inserting a low-pressure suction probe into the ear.
